Reading in Physical Education

Reading is a skill that is necessary to survive in today’s world. I read as much as my schedule will allow me to on a daily basis on a variety of subjects. But once again in the effort to make our students better readers we are going overboard. There is now a move to have students read in PE class. In a time where our children are less and less active, let’s have them sit and read . At times reading is used during PE class {examples being learning bowling scoring, orienteering} but not on a daily basis. The goal of all PE programs should be to give the student a variety activites that they can use the rest of their life.
